4 ways to treat a UTI, cystitis, burning pee

Does it burn when you pee? You might have cystitis, a type of urinary tract infection (UTI).

Here are 4 ways to help treat it:
1. Drink more water, but avoid coffee, alcohol, fruit juice and sugary drinks
2. Takea painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen to reduce pain
3. Get a powder or liquid with potassium citrate or sodium citrate from the pharmacy to make your pee less acidic, so it hurts less when you pee. Mix the powder or liquid with water and drink the mixture every 8 hours for 2 days.
4. Get a prescription from your doctor for antibiotics, such as nitrofurantoin, trimethoprim, or cefalexin

Always speak to your pharmacist or doctor for advice if you think you have cystitis or a UTI.
