7 Natural ways to get rid of a cold sore
Whether you’re prone to them or not, waking up with an unsightly cold sore is an instant way to ruin your day. They can take forever to heal, and it can feel embarrassing to walk around with a glaring cold sore on your face. The next time you get a cold sore, don’t think that the world is ending. Just try these 7 quick and simple tips to get rid of cold sores naturally.
1. MILK
It sounds surprising but that milk in your fridge might just be your answer! Soak a cotton ball with milk and let it sit for a few minutes. Apply milk repeatedly on the cold sore and let it stay – don’t go washing it off. After no time the cold sore will start to improve.
2 garlic
Garlic is proven to contain antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties which can greatly help to treat cold sores. Besides that, it has anti-inflammatory agents that reduce swelling and inflammation, speeding up the healing of cold sores . Slice a fresh garlic clove, crush one half, and then hold it against the affected area until the stinging goes away. Do this 3 to 5 times a day.
3. PEPPERMINT OIL
The antiviral powers of peppermint oil makes for a much more pleasant smelling solution. Apply the oil to your sore 3 times a day for instant relief and no cold sore. Plus its a really lovely smell under your nose all day long.
4 Hydrogen peroxide
Studies have shown that hydrogen peroxide may have the ability to disinfect and dry up cold sores. Some people say to pour 3% hydrogen peroxide solution into a small bowl, dip a clean cotton swab or cotton ball in the solution, and apply it to the cold sore. Leave it on until it stops stinging. Do this as necessary to dry up the cold sore.
5. Tea Tree Oil
There are few things tea tree oil CAN’T do. The antibacterial healing properties of this oil are renowned. IT helps to dry up and banish your cold sore and speed recovery that’s if you apply it throughout the day and before you go to bed.
6. VANILLA
One of the easiest remedies is probably in your pantry right now: vanilla. Vanilla extract is one of the easiest remedies to get a hold of, plus the extract is known for its powerful medicinal purposes. Vanilla is high in alcohol levels, which means it’s hard for a sore to survive and thrive when confronted with vanilla. Use 4-5 times a day for a quick-healing sore.
7. ICE
Too simple, you say? Well, it may not have miracle properties like the other entries on this list, but it is the easiest of them all. Who doesn’t have ice (or at least a tray to make some ice) hanging out in the freezer?
Apply ice on the sore throughout the day, especially when the sore first begins. The cooling of the ice can take away the swelling and pain on you lip, helping you resist the urge to pick at the sore and worsen the situation.
Though the sores may clear up within a few days without treatment, you can use these home remedies to ease the discomfort and help diminish the appearance of cold sores or canker sores.
