What to do for nighttime cough & congestion in babies young children (see description)

Do NOT

Do not attempt to elevate the head of a mattress in an infant any child under 12 months old. Also, do not elevate the head of the mattress if the child is still moving around and changing position at night.however, if they’re over, one years old and sleeping in one direction, elevating, the head of the mattress can be a good option when congested. Elevating the head of the mattress in an infant, or child under 12 months can put them in an unsafe sleep position and increase a risk of SIDS
here are some things you can try instead:
1. Suction the nose
2. For a child over one years old, you can try a tablespoon of honey before bed.
3. If child has associated fevers or physical discomfort and is fussy, you can try giving a medication like ibuprofen.
4. Try sitting with child in a steamy bathroom. Turn the shower on and let the steam build up.
5. You can also try a humidifier in their room just make sure to clean it at least every other day mold can grow quickly!
6. An anecdotal tip that I’ve noticed with my children is that if I turn off the ceiling fans, it seems to help when they have a cough.🤷‍♀️
7. Coughs lasting longer than 3 to 4 weeks should be seen by the pediatrician.
