Coronavirus warning: steep cuts to local services without emergency funding – BBC News
Leaders of some of the biggest councils in England have appealed to the government for emergency financial support to prevent them becoming insolvent during the pandemic.
The County Councils Network says that without a £5bn income guarantee, many non- essential services will have to be cut. There could also be an impact on care providers which rely on council funding.
It came as the head of the Office for Budgetary Responsibility warned that the UK economy is unlikely to swiftly bounce back to previous levels of activity when the coronavirus pandemic is brought under control.
