Transcript: How Do I Know If It’s Liver Pain?

Liver pain can be deceptive there are a number of other disorders that can cause discomfort in the same area of the torso, especially gallbladder problems and pancreatitis.

Pain in the liver area usually occurs the right front of the torso, near the bottom of the ribcage. But some patients even experience liver pain in the right shoulder, causing discomfort when they breath in, or cough.

If you’re experiencing pain in this area, you should look for other symptoms that typically indicate liver problems. These include

* Swelling in the legs and ankles

* Itchy skin

* Dark urine color

* Pale stool color, or bloody or tar-colored stool

* Skin and eyes that appear yellowish (a condition known as jaundice)

* Chronic fatigue

* Nausea or vomiting

* Loss of appetite

* Tendency to bruise easily

Causes of pain in the liver area include inflammation of the biliary duct, gallbladder disease or gallstones, pancreatitis, hepatitis, and liver abscess. Sometimes, liver cysts can also cause liver pain.

If you’re experiencing the symptoms I mentioned, you should see a doctor as soon as you can.
