This gets complex really quick. And different countries have different labels, and there’s metric and calories and kilojoules. 😵💫😵💫😵💫
To simplify, don’t get caught up on trying to find exact calories, but instead educate yourself on comparisons.
Make sure IF you compare products you’re looking at consistent weights of foods, not serving sizes.
I found out that Ben and Jerries has more than double the calories per 100g than a soy based ice cream I enjoy, so it’s easy for me to make the decision on what I buy WHEN I get that treat.
If you want to do some maths and find the calorie density per pound, then use this formula:
453g(1 pound)/ grams per serving (on package) X calories per serving (on package) = calories per pound.
For the yoghurt example:
453g/55g (the higher calorie yoghurt) X 131 calories = 1,079 calories per pound.
Aka use this very sparingly.
Does this make sense? Let me know in the comments!! 👇
P.S. Th easiest way to get an idea of calories per pound of food is with a calorie density chart. I have a fully plant based one to download that comes with the FREE mini course in the link below.
