India has reported cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a growing health concern linked to recent developments in China. Although HMPV shares symptoms with Covid-19, including fever, cough, runny nose, and sore throat, it is not a new virus and is distinct from Sars-CoV-2, the virus responsible for Covid-19.

HMPV affects both the upper and lower respiratory tract, typically causing mild cold-like symptoms. However, in severe cases, it can lead to bronchiolitis and pneumonia, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
