Anti dandruff shampoos are to be used a certain way to treat dandruff which is different from the regular shampoos.

Right way of using :

– wet the scalp.
– Take anti dandruff shampoo and rub it into the scalp to form lather.
– Leave it in for 15 mins
– Donot use this shampoo to the length of your hair.
– Wash the scalp after 15 mins
– Use conditioner to the length of the hair to prevent hair from drying out.

Frequency of using anti dandruff shampoo depends on the severity and your dermatologist will advise accordingly. In general 2-3 times use if mild anti dandruff shampoos alternating it with regular shampoos will suffice .

If the condition is severe , thick patches are present , shampoos containing salicylic acid , coal tar might also be prescribed and some of these solutions have to be as over night application to see the results.

So please follow the instructions given by your dermatologist and use these shampoos the right way.

Another important point – Be consistent.
Dandruff isn’t a disease that is treated with one time medication . It’s an everyday phenomenon with varying severities depending on season , intrinsic factors . So should be the usage of medicated shampoos. It’s a long term hair care game.

Home remedies that can help- application of fresh alive vera gel on scalp for 20-30 mins followed by wash treats dandruff effectively . You can use it everyday also or atleast 3 times a week .
